" And God said let there be light ; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good. And God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light day and the darkness he called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." Even so this was the first day of a new life to Archibald Moreland ; a day that was lighted by a beam from that place
Where the sky is a dome of crystals bright ;
The fountain of vision, the fountain of light ; And the emerald fields are of dazzling glow, And the flowers of everlasting blow."
And that beam shone steadily upon him throughout a long and honourable career, illustrating the fact that those men are not always the best and bravest whose habits and tem- perament place them beyond the reach of temptation ; and that one who has stumbled and recovered himself is as worthy of the immortal crown as any of them. Neverthe- less, we say unto all, take heed that ye do not stumble, for ye may not find strength to recover yourselves.
